"Nothing is beautiful, only man: on this piece of naivete rests all aesthetics, it is the first truth of aesthetics. Let us immediately add its second: nothing is ugly but degenerate man - the domain of aesthetic judgment is therewith defined. " ~ Friedrich Nietzsche
Aesthetics is a part of philosophy that has to do with the nature of beauty, art, and taste and creation and appreciation of beauty. It is a study of sensory or sensori-emotional values.
I read the article on http://photoinf.com/General/NAVY/Photographic_composition_Balance.htm. I guess I never really stopped to think about all the different characteristics that go into a great photo. You rarely capture a perfect picture on a whim. Most are staged and prepared to come out the way that you want it to. I think that we often forget about the beauty around us because we see it all day, by stopping and taking pictures of things around us, we can forever appreciate it, even if it's not there some day.
You are so right when you said "you rarely capture a perfect photo on a whim." And I think that many of the great photos are staged. My son suggested to me that I stage so pictures too. Maybe next week I'll give that a try, and see if there's any major difference.
